What happens when you reach 30,000 connections?
LinkedIn changes how your profile works:
- Follow becomes the default button on your profile.
- You can't send or accept invitations until you remove connections to get back under the limit.
- People can still follow you, and followers can see, like and comment on what you share publicly.
- LinkedIn suggests connecting with people you know and trust, and following anyone else whose posts you want to see.

How do you send an invitation with a note?
On desktop:
- Go to the profile of the person you want to connect with.
- Select Connect in their introduction section. If Follow is their main button, select More, then Connect.
- Click Add a note.
- Write your message, up to 200 characters.
- Select Send invitation.
- In the app, tap the More icon on their profile, then Personalize Invite.
- Invitations sent from People You May Know in the app can't include a note.
- You need a primary email address on your account to send invitations.
- If you choose We don't know each other, LinkedIn may ask you to send a message first.

Why have I been restricted from sending invitations?
LinkedIn gives two main reasons: sending many invitations in a short time, and having many ignored, left pending or marked as spam. Suspected automation tools can lead to suspension. What it suggests:
- Most restrictions lift on their own within a week. LinkedIn support can't remove or shorten them, or tell you the reason.
- Withdrawing pending invitations doesn't remove a restriction.
| Situation | What LinkedIn suggests |
|---|---|
| First restriction | Wait a few hours, then try again |
| Several restrictions in a day | Wait a few days |
| Too many outstanding invitations | Wait up to a month before inviting again |
| Using an extension that automates LinkedIn | Disable it; repeated suspensions can lead to a permanent restriction |

How do you grow your network without hitting the limit?
LinkedIn's suggestions:
- Only invite people you know and trust, and add a note saying how you know them.
- Keep your profile and photo up to date so people recognise you.
- Follow people you don't know, and let them follow you, instead of sending invitations.
- Use Groups or InMail to reach people you haven't met.
- To choose who can invite you: Settings & Privacy, then Data privacy, then Invitations to connect under Who can reach you.

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Followers don't count towards the 30,000 cap, and they see what you share publicly. Zolyp writes and schedules your LinkedIn posts, so people who follow you rather than connect see something new each week. LinkedIn is one of the 9 platforms it publishes to (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads), and you approve the week before anything goes live. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
Common questions
How many connection requests can I send a week on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn doesn't publish a number. It says limits apply to everyone and that restrictions follow sending many invitations quickly or having many ignored or marked as spam.
Does LinkedIn Premium raise the invitation limit?
No. Premium lets you add a note to every invitation, but Premium members are still subject to invitation limits.
How long does a LinkedIn invitation restriction last?
Usually up to a week. If it's for too many outstanding invitations, LinkedIn suggests waiting up to a month.
Will withdrawing old invitations lift a restriction?
No. And you can't invite those people again for up to three weeks after withdrawing.
What's the maximum number of LinkedIn connections?
30,000 first-degree connections. There's no limit on followers.
