What should you fill in?
The create form asks for:

Public or private, listed or unlisted?
Pick these before you click Create:
- The create page says privacy can't be changed after the group is created. The groups management FAQ says an owner can contact LinkedIn support to ask for a change of group type, so it isn't something you can switch yourself.
| Setting | What it means |
|---|---|
| Public | Anyone can see posts, but only members can post or comment |
| Private | Only members can see posts |
| Listed (private groups only) | Shows in search and on members' profiles, and people can see which connections are members |
| Unlisted (private groups only) | Hidden from search, and non-members can't see it on members' profiles |
| Member invites (optional) | Lets members invite their connections |
| Admin approval (optional) | An owner or manager approves new posts before they appear |

How do you invite people and add managers?
Owners and managers can invite connections. On desktop:
- Go to the group's homepage.
- Click Invite connections in the top-right corner.
- Search for a connection by first or last name, or filter by location, current company, school or industry.
- Select the people you want and send the invitations.
- LinkedIn limits how many invitations you can send at once, based on the group's size, how long you've been on LinkedIn, your number of connections and your pending invitations. It doesn't publish the numbers.
- LinkedIn recommends adding more owners and managers to keep the group active. Groups can't be created, managed or moderated anonymously.

Why can't I do this in my LinkedIn Group?
Common problems:
| Problem | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Can't create another group | You've created five today | Try again tomorrow |
| Want to switch public and private | It can't be changed in settings | The owner contacts LinkedIn support |
| Want a custom group URL | Custom URLs aren't supported | Share the group's standard link |
| A member keeps posting spam | Members can post freely unless you approve posts | Block them, then delete their posts. Removed members can ask to rejoin; blocked ones can't |
| Two groups on the same topic | There's no automatic merge | Post in one inviting members to join the other, then close it |
| A manager can't delete the group | Only owners can | Ask an owner, or transfer ownership instead, as deleting is permanent |

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't post in LinkedIn Groups. It writes and schedules posts for your LinkedIn profile or company Page, which is a good place to mention a group you run and invite people to join. LinkedIn is one of the 9 platforms it publishes to (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads), and you approve the week before anything goes live. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
Common questions
How many LinkedIn Groups can I create?
Up to five a day. The help pages we checked don't give a lifetime cap.
Can I change a LinkedIn Group from private to public?
Not in the group's settings. Only an owner can ask LinkedIn support to change the group type.
What's the difference between a group owner and a manager?
Owners can add owners and managers, edit group information and delete the group. Managers can invite people, moderate posts and remove or block members.
Can a LinkedIn Group have a custom URL?
No. LinkedIn doesn't support custom group URLs.
What happens if I delete a LinkedIn Group?
It's permanent and can't be reopened. LinkedIn recommends transferring ownership to another member instead.
