What is Edits?
Edits is an app from Instagram for making videos. Instagram's Terms of Use apply, and it can use your Instagram information to import your saved reels and show insights on reels you share. Deactivating your Instagram account also deactivates Edits.
Two extra tabs help with planning. The trending tab shows popular reels from public accounts, with view, like and share counts, and a Use audio button. The insights tab covers the last 60 days: views, reach, follows, likes, comments, shares and saves for your reels.

How do you record a video in Edits?
To start from videos you already have, tap Projects, then New project, and pick media from your gallery.
- Tap Camera at the bottom.
- Set anything you need before recording: flash, retouch, resolution (HD, 2K or 4K), music, green screen, timer, speed, teleprompter or filters.
- Tap Record to start, and tap it again to stop. Tap again to add another clip to the same project.
- Tap Next to see your timeline and edit.

Which editing tools does Edits have?
Every layer you add appears as its own clip on the timeline. Tap and hold a clip to move it, or drag its ends to change how long it shows.
- Split a layer into two clips, or change its speed or volume
- Replace a clip with another from your camera roll, or duplicate it
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Audio | Add a song from the audio library, or import your own |
| Text and Captions | Add text in many fonts, or generate captions with language and style controls |
| Voice | Record a voiceover while following an on-screen script |
| Links and Overlay | Add tappable overlays to other reels or accounts, or overlay a photo, video or reel |
| Filters, Adjust and Effects | Change the look, including white balance, hue, saturation, colour wheels and curves |
| Sound FX, Cutout and Sticker | Add sound effects, remove a background or make your own sticker |

How do you share or download your video?
Downloads from the camera are watermark free. A reel shared to Instagram shows an icon saying it was made with Edits. A draft saved to Instagram keeps your caption and tags, but if you change the video in Edits you need to export it again.
- Tap Projects and open a project.
- To change quality, tap the resolution in the top right and pick resolution, frame rate and colour.
- Tap Next in the top right.
- Tap Download to save it to your camera roll, or Share to Instagram to post it as a reel.
- To finish it later, choose Instagram on the Choose where to share screen and tap Save draft.

What audio can you use in Edits?
You can use your own original audio, or licensed audio from Instagram's library. On a public account, anyone can reuse your original audio in their reels. Licensed tracks can be muted later if Instagram's agreements with rights holders change.
If Instagram detects licensed music in your reel, it changes the credit to the artist and song and adds the reel to that song's audio page. Wrong match? Tap the audio at the bottom of the reel and choose Remove from audio page. If you post from a business account, read our guide to music on Instagram first.

Why isn't your Edits video working as expected?
- Music is missing from the download. Licensed audio over 60 seconds isn't included when you export
- Your changes aren't on Instagram. Export the video again after editing
- Link overlays aren't tappable. Export directly from Edits to Instagram; only reels and accounts that allow reuse appear
- You deleted a project by mistake. Projects in the bin can be restored for seven days
- The video is still on Instagram after you deleted the project. Deleting in Edits doesn't remove posted or downloaded copies
