How do you change your X password while logged in?
In the iOS and Android apps the path is the navigation menu, Settings and privacy, Your account, Change your password, then Done. X logs you out of every active session except the one you used to make the change. If you're logged in but can't remember the old password, you can send yourself a reset email from the same password settings page.
- On x.com, click the More icon in the navigation bar and select Settings and privacy.
- Under Your account, click Change your password.
- Enter your current password.
- Enter your new password, then enter it again to confirm.
- Click Save.

How do you reset your X password by text message?
This only works if a phone number is added to your account. X also says text reset isn't available to accounts enrolled in login verification (two-factor authentication): those accounts can only reset by email.
- On the Forgot password? page, enter your phone number, email address or username.
- Enter your phone number and select Search.
- X shows "Text a code to my phone ending in" with the last digits. Select Continue.
- Enter the code X texts you (valid for 60 minutes) and select Submit.
- Choose a new password.

What if you can't access your email or phone?
- X says you need access to the email or phone on the account. Without either, recovery options are limited, and you may need a new account
- Try the username and password combination you last remember
- Check whether you're still logged in somewhere else, such as the X app, mobile.x.com or X Pro
- Start with your username: X then asks for the account's email, so try every address you might have used
- If that fails, repeat with phone numbers you might have used. This won't work if more than one account uses the number
- If you know your username, X says it may be able to help with the login issue through X Support

How should a business handle its X password?
If several people post for the business, X's Delegate feature lets you add them as admins or contributors so they never need the password. X says delegates don't lose access when you change the password, and it encourages owners to update it so only they know it. If you get reset emails you didn't ask for, X suggests turning on Password reset protection and setting up two-factor authentication.

Why isn't your X password reset working?
- No text code: check you have reception or internet access and that X's number isn't blocked. Codes can take a few minutes, and email reset is the fallback
- Texts from X blocked in the past: X's phone page says to unblock 40404 and request a new code, and notes some people are having trouble receiving SMS codes
- No text option at all: the account uses login verification, or no phone number is saved on it
- Phone number rejected: more than one account uses it, so use your email or username instead
- Still can't log in after resetting: X says the account may be locked for security reasons

Common questions
How long is an X password reset code valid?
60 minutes, for both the email and the text message code, according to X's Help Center.
Does resetting my X password log me out everywhere?
Yes. A reset logs you out of all active sessions. Changing your password while logged in keeps only the session you used to change it.
Why can't I reset my X password by text?
Text reset needs a phone number on the account, isn't available to accounts using login verification, and won't work with a number shared by several accounts.
Can I reset my X password without email or a phone number?
X says recovery options are limited without them. If you know your username, X Support may be able to help.
Why do I keep getting X password reset emails?
Someone may be entering your username or email. X suggests turning on Password reset protection and setting up two-factor authentication.
