How do you repost or quote a post?

The steps are the same in the app and on threads.com:

  1. Find the thread or reply you want to share.
  2. Tap or click the repost icon below it.
  3. Choose to repost it as it is, or quote it.
  4. If you quote it, write your own post around it and post it.
  • A repost appears as a reposted thread on your profile and in feed
  • A quote is included in a new thread that you post
  • You can repost and quote replies as well as threads

How do you share a post outside Threads?

To share a post you see:

  1. Tap Share below the post.
  2. Choose Copy link, pick where you want to share it, add it to your Instagram story, or post it to your Instagram feed.
  • Who sees it on Instagram depends on your Instagram story and post settings
  • You can also send a post to someone as a direct message on Threads

How do you reuse media from someone else's post?

Meta lets you build a new post around a photo or video from a public post. It says this isn't available to everyone yet. In the app:

  1. Open the options below a public post and tap Use media.
  2. Customise your post.
  3. Tap Post in the bottom right.
  • Your post shows the original poster's username on the media
  • The original profile is notified when you use their media
  • Only media from public profiles can be reused

How do you control who can quote or reuse your posts?

Quotes are limited per post with Reply options (see our guide to limiting replies). Reuse of your photos and videos has its own setting:

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
  2. Tap Settings in the top right.
  3. Tap More settings, then Media.
  4. Turn Media reuse on or off.
  • Private profiles: no one can reuse your media. Public profiles of people over 18: anyone can, by default
  • Turning reuse off doesn't stop people reposting or quoting your posts
  • Posts that already reused your media stay unless you delete your original, or tap Options next to that post and Remove quote
  • Limiting who can reply and quote a post also limits who can reuse its media
  • Changing who can reply and quote doesn't delete existing quotes, and you set it post by post

How do you save a post for later instead?

If you only want to come back to a post, save it rather than reposting it:

  1. Tap Options in the top right of the post.
  2. Tap Save.
  3. To find it later, go to your profile, tap Menu, then Saved. On threads.com, click Menu on the left, then Saved.
  • Only you can see your saved posts, and the poster can't see that you saved theirs
  • To unsave, tap Options on the post, then Unsave

Why can't you repost, quote or reuse a post?

  • You can't quote it. The author may have limited who can reply and quote that post
  • Use media isn't there. Meta says media reuse isn't available to everyone, and it only works on public profiles' posts
  • You can't change who quotes your post. Meta says you can manage this when the post isn't also shared to the fediverse
  • A reposted post is missing for someone. People you've blocked can't see content you repost
  • Someone reused your photo after you turned reuse off. Older posts stay, so use Remove quote or delete your original

Does someone know if I reuse their photo?

Can I stop people quoting my Threads posts?

Yes, per post. Open Options on the post, tap Reply options and choose who can reply and quote.

Can people see what I save on Threads?

No. Only you can see your saved posts, and the poster can't tell that you saved theirs.
