What are TikTok's billing options?
You choose a billing option when you create your TikTok Ads Manager account. All three can accept bank transfers, cards or other methods.
- With automatic payment, your bill date is based on when you registered and how much you've spent before.
- Any balance you've added is used first, and the rest is charged to your payment method. TikTok's example: add $100, spend $150, and the remaining $50 is charged on your bill date or threshold.
| Option | How it works | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Manual payment | Add a balance first. Ad charges come out of it as ads run | Ads stop when the balance runs out. Leftover balance carries forward |
| Automatic payment | TikTok charges your payment method at your billing threshold or bill date, whichever comes first | Weekly or monthly billing. A primary payment method must always be on file |
| Monthly invoicing | An invoice each month, or after the order ends | Only for eligible businesses. Due 30 days from the invoice date unless agreed otherwise |

Can you change your billing option later?

- Manual payment to monthly invoicing.
- Automatic payment to monthly invoicing.
| Once you're on | You can't go back to |
|---|---|

Which payment methods does TikTok accept?

- Go to TikTok Ads Manager and open the Tools tab.
- Under Settings, click Billing.
- On the Payment page, click + Add Payment Method to see the list.
- In Business Center, go to Finance, then Payment management, to add a payment method.

How do TikTok ad credits and promo codes work?
TikTok suggests paying in a little more than the requirement, because ads can stop serving before the last of a balance is spent.
- TikTok only offers promotional codes to advertisers who pre-load their ad accounts.
- Activate the code before it expires, then meet the spend requirement in the offer.
- The credit usually appears on your payment page within one day of meeting it.
- You're charged for any advertising beyond the credit, and TikTok doesn't notify you when the credit runs out.
- One promotional credit per customer. It normally expires on 31 March of the year after you activate it.

Why did your TikTok ads payment fail?
TikTok says failed payments usually come from wrong details, a poor connection or problems with bank authorisation. Its checklist:
- Check the card details, expiry date and credit limit, and that the account has enough funds.
- Clear your cookies and cache, or try a private window or a different browser.
- Turn off VPNs, pop-up blockers and extensions, which can stop the 3D Secure check from loading.
- Clear the Ads Manager cache by adding &reset_cache=1 to the end of the URL.
- Want unspent money back? If your ad account is in good standing, you can request a refund of the unspent balance, excluding taxes, from Ads Manager or Business Center.

Where Zolyp fits (from the team behind this guide)
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is an AI social media manager: it plans, writes, designs and schedules posts for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads, and you approve the week before anything goes out. Ad spend is billed by TikTok, not through Zolyp, and Zolyp's own plans are on its pricing page. Its weekly report shows which organic posts did best, which helps you decide where ad money should go.
