TikTok Promote: how to boost a video or LIVE

TikTok's Business Help Center groups Promote's goals into four tabs. You can start from a ready-made promotion pack with a preset budget, duration and audience, or build a custom promotion.

Promote has several entry points in the app, plus a web version:

• From a video: open one of your videos, tap the three dots, then the Promote icon.
• From TikTok Studio: open it with the menu button at the top right of your profile, then tap Promote in the tools list.
• From the Business Suite, on a business account: same menu, then Promote.
• From your own LIVE: the Promote icon above the Go LIVE button, or in the Share menu during the LIVE.
• On the web, at tiktok.com/promote/web/main.
• To repeat a past campaign, open your Promote Dashboard, find the video under Order history and tap Promote again.

The exact screens depend on the goal. This is the flow TikTok gives for sending people to your website:

1. Under Choose your goal, tap the Get sales tab and select More website visits.
2. Enter your website URL and choose a call to action.
3. Go to Select creatives and choose your videos or photos.
4. Pick a promotion pack, or customise: choose Default audience or Create your own, then set your budget and duration.
5. Review the promotion details.
6. Tap Pay to place your Promote order.

• More website conversions also needs Promote connected to TikTok Ads Manager and the TikTok Pixel installed. Website visits doesn't.

Budget and duration options appear on the budget screen in the app, so check them, and the promotion details, before you tap Pay.

• You must be at least 18.
• To promote a LIVE, your account needs at least 1,000 followers.
• Both General TikTok Accounts and Verified Business Accounts have Promote.
• Promoted content must follow TikTok's Community Guidelines and its additional Advertising Policies for Promote.

TikTok's own advice is to start with a video that's already working. Its first-promotion guide suggests picking one of your most popular videos, and its best-practice page suggests these experiments:

• Use lower-funnel goals (website conversions, lead generation, product purchases) when you want actions, not just views.
• Spread your budget across goals.
• Gradually extend how long a promotion runs.
• Try different targeting combinations by gender, age, interest and location.

If the Promote icon is missing from a video's menu, try another entry point, such as TikTok Studio or the web version.

• You're under 18: Promote requires users to be at least 18.
• Boost LIVE isn't available: promoting a LIVE needs at least 1,000 followers.
• More website conversions isn't selectable: connect Promote to TikTok Ads Manager first and install the Pixel.
• The content doesn't meet TikTok's Advertising Policies for Promote.
