How to mute someone on Instagram

Muting hides someone's content from you without unfollowing them, and Instagram doesn't let them know. Each type is muted separately:

1. Go to their profile. Tap their username on a post or story, or search for it.
2. Tap Following below their profile info.
3. Tap Mute.
4. Turn on Posts, Stories or both.

1. Tap Options next to their post.
2. Tap Hide.
3. Tap Mute [username], then Mute posts or Mute posts and story.
4. To mute only their story, tap and hold their profile picture at the top of feed, then tap Mute and Mute stories.

For a group chat, tap the group name, then Mute, and choose Mute messages, Mute @mentions or Mute calls.

1. Tap Messages at the bottom and open your chat with them.
2. Tap their name at the top, then Mute.
3. Turn on Mute messages or Mute calls.
4. To mute their notes, tap and hold a note in Messages, tap Mute notes and confirm.

1. Go to their profile and tap Following, then Mute.
2. Turn off Posts, Stories or Notes.
3. Or, on their profile, tap their profile picture to open their stories, tap Options in the top right, then Unmute story.
4. To unmute messages, open the chat, tap their name, then Mute, and turn off Mute messages or Mute calls.

Our advice: mute a competitor or a supplier you want to keep following quietly. For someone who's rude to you or your customers, restrict or block them instead.

• You muted their stories only. Their posts still show in feed
• You muted their posts only. Mute stories as well
• You're seeing their notes. Muting posts, stories or messages doesn't hide notes
• It's a group chat. Mute the group separately
