How to manage notifications on X (Twitter)

Likes on your posts, reposts, replies and mentions, new List followers and new followers. You can view it three ways:

• All: every kind of account activity
• Mentions: only posts that mention your username
• Verified: only posts from accounts with blue checkmarks

Types X lists include mentions, replies, reposts, likes, new followers, Direct Messages, contacts who join X, recommendations, highlights, news, Spaces, crisis and emergency alerts, and a first look at new features.

1. Tap your profile icon in the top menu.
2. Select Settings and privacy.
3. Tap Notifications, then Preferences.
4. Tap Push notifications and choose the types you want.

The quality filter hides lower-quality content, such as duplicate posts or content that looks automated, but never filters people you follow or accounts you've recently interacted with. X turns it on by default for new accounts and reinstalled apps. Advanced filters can switch off notifications from accounts you don't follow, or, among accounts you don't follow, ones that are new, don't follow you, have a default profile photo, or have no confirmed email address or phone number. You can also mute words and accounts.

1. Go to your Notifications timeline.
2. On x.com, click Settings. In the app, tap the gear icon.
3. Turn the quality filter on or off.
4. Open Advanced filters and turn on any filters you want.

Our suggestion: turn this on for the few accounts your business can't miss, such as your local council, key suppliers or a trade body.

1. Go to the profile of an account you follow.
2. Tap the notification icon.
3. Choose All posts, or Only posts with live video.
4. To stop, tap the highlighted notification icon and select None.

Activity emails come as a digest, controlled by Email me when I have new notifications on x.com. Direct Message emails aren't part of the digest. The unsubscribe link in an email turns off that one type, but X still sends service announcements and administrative messages, such as password change emails.

1. Open Settings and privacy.
2. Select Notifications, then Email notifications.
3. Toggle Email notifications on or off.
4. Tick or untick the types you want. Changes save automatically.

• The quality filter is hiding them. Turn it off if you're missing replies from new customers
• An advanced filter, such as accounts you don't follow, is switched on
• You've muted the account or a word in the post
• Email notifications skip some activity. X says it may not email you about every like, repost or mention, for example from new accounts
• That push notification type is turned off on your phone. X has separate iOS troubleshooting steps
• The Direct Message conversation is snoozed
