How to delete or hide a YouTube channel

Hiding is the safer choice if you might want the channel back. YouTube describes deleting as permanent and gives no way to restore deleted content.

Use a computer. You may be asked to sign in again partway through.

1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
2. In the left sidebar, select Settings.
3. Select Channel, then Advanced settings.
4. At the bottom, select Remove YouTube content.
5. Select I want to hide my channel.
6. Tick the boxes to confirm what will be hidden.
7. Select Hide my channel.

Download anything you want to keep first. YouTube also warns that deleting can make recovering your account harder.

1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
2. In the left sidebar, select Settings.
3. Select Channel, then Advanced settings.
4. At the bottom, select Remove YouTube content, and enter your sign-in details if asked.
5. Select I want to permanently delete my content.
6. Tick the boxes to confirm you want to delete the channel.
7. Select Delete my content.

• Deletion can take some time, and thumbnails of your videos may still appear on YouTube for a short while.
• Your Google Account stays. Deleting that is a separate process.
• Aggregate data such as watch time still appears in reports but is no longer attributed to your channel.
• If you delete the primary owner account linked to a channel, the channel is deleted too.

If your Content page says your channel has content but has been disabled, it's hidden. For a personal channel:

1. Sign in to YouTube.
2. Go to the page to create a channel and fill in the form. This restores the hidden channel.
3. Don't click the option to use a business or other name, because that creates a new channel instead.
4. Make your videos and playlists viewable again from the Videos page. They stay hidden until you do.

• For a Brand Account channel: tap your profile picture, then Settings, Account, Add or manage your channel(s), select the hidden channel and tap OK when asked to create a channel.
• View counts may be wrong while the channel is hidden and can take up to a week to update afterwards.

The usual reasons:

• You're on a phone. YouTube says you can't currently delete a channel on mobile, so use a computer.
• Your role doesn't allow it. With channel permissions, only the Owner can delete the channel; Managers and Editors can't.
• You're signed in to the wrong account. Check the channel shown in YouTube Studio before you start.
• You only want one video gone. Delete that video or make it private instead of the whole channel.
