How to block someone on X (Twitter)

Blocked accounts can't:

• Like, reply to, repost or otherwise engage with your posts
• Follow you, and you can't follow them. Blocking someone you follow unfollows you both
• Send you Direct Messages
• Add your account to their Lists
• Tag you in a photo

From a post:

1. Select the More icon at the top of a post from the account.
2. Select Block.
3. Select Block again to confirm.

• From a profile instead: go to the account's profile, select the More icon, select Block, then confirm
• On a profile you've blocked, the Follow button becomes a Blocked button and their posts are hidden unless you choose to view them

X no longer lets you export or import block lists as CSV files. You can still get a list of the accounts you've blocked from Your X Data in your account settings.

1. On x.com, select More in the side menu.
2. Select Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety.
3. Under Safety, select Blocked accounts.
4. Choose All to see everyone you block, or Imported for accounts blocked through a list you imported in the past.
5. To unblock someone, select the Blocked button next to their name.

If you were following each other before the block, you'll have to follow them again.

1. Go to the blocked account's profile.
2. Select the Blocked button.
3. Confirm with Unblock (on iPhone) or Yes (on Android).

Our view: for a business, mute or ignore most annoying accounts and keep block for spam, abuse and impersonators. Blocking a real customer who complained in public rarely looks good if others notice. You can block and report the same account.

If someone has blocked you, X shows a message on their profile. You can still report them, and include their posts that mention you unless their posts are protected and you don't follow them.

• Your posts are public. Blocked accounts can still see public posts, they just can't engage. Only protecting your posts hides them
• Someone you follow mentioned them. Posts from people you follow that mention a blocked account can still appear
• A post mentions you and the blocked account together
• You opened their profile and chose to view their posts anyway
• Notifications: you still get notified when people you follow mention you in a conversation a blocked account started. Search your own username to see every mention
