What do Meta's music rules say?
The Music Guidelines apply to any video or post with music on Meta's products:
- You're solely responsible for the music in what you post or promote.
- Commercial or non-personal use of music is prohibited unless you have appropriate licences.
- If rights owners find their music used without permission, your content may be blocked, muted or removed.
- Content can't be used to create a music listening experience; Meta says your Page may be deleted if you do.
- Music may not be available in every country.

What is Meta's Sound Collection?
Meta describes it as a library of nearly 16,000 original songs and sound effects that are rights-cleared and free to use on Facebook. Audio from it is labelled Royalty-free, and Meta says videos using it won't be demonetised or muted for copyright.
If you have a Page or a profile in professional mode, you'll see Sound Collection tracks among the audio options when you upload a reel on mobile or in Meta Business Suite on desktop. Since June 2025, all videos posted to Facebook are shared as reels.

How do you use Sound Collection on a computer?
For videos you edit yourself:
- Go to Sound Collection.
- Browse the Tracks tab for music or the Sound effects tab, searching or filtering by genre, mood, length or vocals.
- Press play to listen, then click Download.
- Click Information if you want the attribution links.
- Add the downloaded audio to your video in your own editing software, then post it.

What about licensed songs and Stories?
Meta's help pages describe a licensed music catalogue in the audio library for creators, and one help article says there are no limits on music in Stories. Its Music Guidelines still say commercial use needs appropriate licences, so check before putting a chart song behind a business promotion.
- Meta's general guidance: the more full-length recorded tracks in a video, the more likely it is to be limited.
- Use shorter clips, and always include a visual element; audio shouldn't be the main point.

What if your video or reel is muted?
Meta's suggestions:
- If you think you have the rights, or the action was a mistake, dispute it through the notification you received.
- Muted reels show a red audio icon on your Page or profile.
- If Meta loses the rights to a song you used, the reel is muted. If the rights come back, the content is usually restored.
- To replace the music, edit it on your phone, or download the reel from Meta Business Suite (Content, Posts & reels, Published, then Download SD) and republish it with new audio.

Keeping the rest of the week covered
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp writes the captions and designs the visuals for your Facebook posts. For music, use Sound Collection or tracks you're licensed to use; that choice stays with you.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
Can my business use popular songs in Facebook videos?
Meta's Music Guidelines say commercial use of music is prohibited without appropriate licences. Royalty-free Sound Collection tracks are the safer option for promotions.
Is Meta's Sound Collection free?
Yes. Meta says its songs and sound effects are rights-cleared and free to download and use on Facebook.
Why was my Facebook video muted?
Usually because a rights owner flagged music in it, or Meta lost the rights to a song you used. You can dispute it from the notification if you think it's wrong.
Will a muted reel come back?
If it was muted because Meta lost the music rights, Meta says the content is usually restored if the rights are re-established.
