How do Community Notes work?
Contributors are people on X who sign up to write and rate notes. Any post can receive a note. It isn't majority rules: a note needs agreement between contributors who have sometimes disagreed in their past ratings, which X says helps prevent one-sided ratings.
- X says it doesn't rate or moderate notes unless they break the X Rules, and never decides which notes show
- Notes can be proposed by people or by AI note writers, including X's Community Writer, but only contributors' ratings decide which notes show
- Community Notes don't represent X's viewpoint, and X's teams can't edit them
- All contributions are published daily, and the ranking algorithm is open source so anyone can inspect it

How do you request additional review of a note on your post?
You can only do this for notes rated helpful that are being shown on your post. The note is then shown to contributors on the Community Notes site, which is separate from the X apps.
- Copy your post's link. It looks like x.com/yourusername/status/ followed by a number.
- Open the Additional review page of the Community Notes guide and paste the link into the form.
- Select Go to Community Notes.
- Find the note you think needs another look and select Request additional review.

What happens after you request a review?
- Contributors do the review, not X, and X doesn't decide the outcome
- There's no guarantee more contributors will rate the note, or that its rating will change
- X says extra ratings will likely come in within 24 hours, but the status can change at any time
- If the note is no longer rated helpful, it stops showing on your post
- A review of one note doesn't affect other notes. New notes rated helpful can still appear

How should a business respond to a Community Note?
Our suggestions:
- If the note is right, say so. Reply with the correct details, and fix the same claim on your website or listings
- If the note is wrong, request additional review, and make sure your post links to evidence such as a product page or terms
- If a note breaks the X Rules, report it: select the ••• menu on the note, then Report
- Prevent the next one: double-check prices, offer terms, dates and health or safety claims before you post

How do you become a Community Notes contributor?
X says sign-ups are open to everyone. To be eligible, an account needs:
- No recent notice of violations of the X Rules
- To have joined X at least 6 months ago
- A verified phone number from a trusted carrier that isn't linked to another Community Notes account

Why can't you hide or remove a note?
- Blocking or muting doesn't hide notes. Contributors write under aliases, so blocking or muting an account doesn't change which notes you see
- X won't take a note down because you disagree. X only acts on a noted post or note if it breaks the X Rules, Terms of Service or Privacy Policy
- A note can stay after review if contributors still rate it helpful. Ratings keep coming in, so the status can change later
- Contributor admissions differ by country: X adds contributors country by country and admits them periodically, at random if there are more applicants than places
