Do brands need to follow TikTok trends?
No. Trends are one tool, not the strategy. A TikTok for Business article from October 2026 argues that business content doesn't have to be trendy or entertaining to work; it has to be relevant, useful and specific to the brand, and it puts the point for B2B brands as earning attention through expertise. Most of a small business's videos should be its own series: answers, behind the scenes, proof.
Trends earn their place when they let you say something about your business in a format people already recognise. TikTok's small business guide suggests joining the conversation by commenting on popular videos, following relevant creators and posting original content that responds to trends. The word that matters there is original.
Used well, a trend video can introduce your business to people outside your usual viewers. Used badly, it can make a serious business look like it is trying too hard. The filter below is there to tell the two apart before you spend an afternoon filming.

Where do you find TikTok trends?
Three free places, from broad to personal:
- Creative Center Trends: shows trending hashtags by industry, which you can filter by industry or time frame. Click See Analytics on a hashtag to see its trendline, related videos, audience insights, regional popularity and related hashtags.
- TikTok Studio's Trending feed: content filtered by the region and topic you choose. TikTok says it's non-personalised, unlike the Inspiration feed, which is tailored to your interests.
- Your own For You feed: when the same format or sound keeps appearing, that's a trend reaching people like you.
- Your customers: if clients start quoting a phrase or mentioning a video, that trend has already reached the people who buy from you.

The five-question trend filter
Before filming, run the trend through these questions. If any answer is no, skip it and post from your own series instead.
- Fit: would your customers recognise this trend, or is it only popular with people who will never buy from you?
- Angle: can you say something true about your business with it, rather than just copying it?
- Rights: can you use the sound? As a business, check it's in the Commercial Music Library.
- Timing: can you film and post it this week, while people still recognise it?
- Tone: would you be comfortable if a customer saw it next to your shopfront or website?
- Fit is the question most brands skip. A trend that is huge among teenagers does little for a mortgage broker, however many views it gets.
- Angle is what separates a brand video from a copy. If you can't finish the sentence "Our version shows...", you don't have one yet.
- Timing cuts both ways. Creative Center's hashtag analytics show a trendline, so you can see whether interest is still rising before you commit.
What music can a business use in a trend?
This is where most brand trend videos go wrong. TikTok says Verified Business Accounts don't have access to the general music library, because those songs aren't cleared for commercial use. Businesses use the Commercial Music Library, which is pre-cleared for commercial use.
TikTok also recommends that anyone posting content that promotes a brand, product or service uses only Commercial Music Library music, since its licences for other music don't cover commercial use. If you use an original sound or music from outside the library with the content disclosure setting turned on, TikTok asks you to confirm there's no copyright-protected music in the post, or that you've paid for the licences.
So when a trend depends on one particular song that isn't in the library, take the format and use a cleared sound, your own voice or no music. Our trending sounds guide covers how to find cleared sounds.
Keep a short list of cleared sounds that suit your brand, so you aren't searching the library under time pressure every time a format catches your eye.
The safest sound of all is your own voice. Many trend formats work as well with a spoken explanation as with a song, and an original voiceover can't be removed later over a licensing problem.

How do you make a trend your own?
Viewers have seen the original many times. What earns a watch is the twist only your business can add. Some reliable ways to do it, with invented examples:
- Swap the subject: a "things that just make sense" format, filled with the small details of your shop.
- Apply it to your trade: a "get ready with me" video where a florist prepares the morning's orders.
- Use the format, not the content: a popular question-and-answer structure, answering a real customer question.
- Respond to it: Stitch or Duet a trending video with your expert take, where the creator allows it.
- Add a result: end the trend with your product or finished job, so the video still does a job for the business.
- Worked example (hypothetical): a café sees a "things nobody tells you about working in..." format spreading. Its version is five honest facts about running a café, filmed during the morning rush, ending on the first coffee of the day. Same format, the café's own content, a cleared sound.

When should a brand skip a trend?
Skipping costs you nothing. A clear answer to a real customer question will still be useful long after a trend has passed.
If you're unsure, ask one person who isn't in the business to watch it before you post. If they need it explained, so will your customers.
- It's built on someone's tragedy, a sensitive news story or a political fight.
- It mocks a group of people, including your own customers.
- It needs a song you can't use as a business, and doesn't work without it.
- You'd be copying another creator's video rather than making your own version.
- It's already fading, and you couldn't post for another week or two.
- It doesn't fit your brand voice, and you'd feel the need to explain it.
A 20-minute weekly trend routine
Trend videos often bring a burst of views from people outside your area or market. That is fine, but judge them on the same outcome as everything else: did they bring profile visits, follows or enquiries from the customers you want?
- Open Creative Center Trends and filter by your industry and the last 7 days.
- Check TikTok Studio's Trending feed for your region and topic.
- Note up to three formats or hashtags that keep appearing.
- Run each through the five-question filter.
- Plan at most one trend video for the week, added to your normal series, not replacing them.
- After a few weeks, compare your trend videos with your series videos in analytics. Keep doing whichever brings the viewers you want.

Where Zolyp fits (disclosed: it's our product)
Trends move fast, and the posts around them still need to go out on time. Keeping your regular series on schedule leaves room to film a trend when one fits. Zolyp, which we make, plans the week, writes and designs posts against your Brand Brain and publishes them to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads once you approve them. Lite is $9 a month per brand for scheduling posts you make yourself; plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
Common questions
Should my business do TikTok trends?
Only when the trend fits your customers, you can add your own angle, and you can use the sound legally. Most of your videos should come from your own repeatable series.
Can a business account use trending sounds?
Only those in the Commercial Music Library. TikTok says Verified Business Accounts can't access the general music library, because those songs aren't cleared for commercial use.
Where can I see what's trending on TikTok?
Creative Center Trends shows trending hashtags by industry, and TikTok Studio's Trending feed shows popular content filtered by region and topic.
How fast do I need to join a trend?
There's no fixed window, but trends fade. If you can't film and post within the week, it's usually better to skip it and post from your own series.
Is it fine to copy another creator's trend video?
Make your own version rather than copying. Use the format with your own subject, or respond with Stitch or Duet where the creator allows it.
How many trend videos should a business post?
There's no rule. Many small businesses do well with one trend video in a week at most, alongside their regular series, and none in weeks when nothing passes the filter.
