How does TikTok ad review work?

Ads go into review automatically once they're set up. TikTok says all ads are checked against its Community Guidelines and Advertising Policies, and most are reviewed within 24 hours, though some take longer. Editing certain parts of an approved ad sends it through review again.

How do you find out why your TikTok ad was rejected?

The reason is shown in TikTok Ads Manager, next to the ad's status:

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager and click Campaigns.
  2. Select the Campaign, Ad group or Ad tab.
  3. Find the item in the Status column and read the status detail next to it.
  4. Click View next to the status to open an action card, such as Fix or Appeal.
  5. For a Disapproved item, open the Secondary Status card and click View more to see the policy reason and suggested fixes.
  • Problems at a lower level, such as a rejected creative inside an active campaign, show up at the higher level too.

Why do TikTok ads get rejected?

The reasons TikTok's help pages call out most often:

  • Language: the ad text, speech, subtitles or landing page aren't in an accepted language for every country you target. Use separate ad groups for locations with different languages.
  • Unsupported actions: telling people to swipe up, or showing a mouse cursor.
  • Media quality: low-quality images or video, or unclear audio.
  • Inconsistency: the product in the ad isn't on the landing page, or the display name doesn't match the landing page's branding. This rule doesn't apply to Spark Ads.
  • Permissions: brands, hashtags or copyrighted media used without permission.
  • Product rules: the product or service is prohibited or restricted in the country you target.
  • Claims: misleading claims, false information, or sensational and shocking content.
  • Landing page: it doesn't work, or it asks for personal information without a privacy policy.
  • Length: TikTok's FAQ says video ads must be between 5 seconds and 10 minutes.

How do you resubmit a rejected ad?

There are two routes back into review:

  1. Read the rejection reason and fix the ad, landing page or targeting.
  2. Save your changes to the ad creative. This triggers a new review, which can take up to 24 hours.
  3. If you think the rejection was wrong, submit an Advertiser Support ticket asking for a re-review.
  • While an edit is in review, the ad group stays active. If the edit fails review, the ad group is paused.

Where Zolyp fits (from the team behind this guide)

Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is an AI social media manager: it plans, writes, designs and schedules posts for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads, and you approve the week before anything goes out. It doesn't submit ads, so ad review doesn't apply to what it publishes. Organic posts still have to follow TikTok's Community Guidelines, which is one reason to read each week's posts before you approve them.
