How to turn off and manage notifications on Threads

Threads lets you set each type of push notification separately. In the app:

1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
2. Tap Menu in the top right.
3. Tap Notifications.
4. Choose a category, such as Threads and replies, or Following and followers.
5. For each notification type, choose Off, From people you follow or From everyone.

• Notifications cover things like likes and replies to your threads, mentions, reposts and quotes, new followers and direct messages
• Not every type has a From people you follow option

To take a break from every push notification at once:

1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
2. Tap Menu in the top right.
3. Tap Notifications.
4. Tap the switch next to Pause all and choose how long.

To follow replies to a thread, open the post and tap the notifications icon in the top right. You'll get replies in Activity for 24 hours. Tap the same icon to stop.

To be told whenever a profile you follow posts:

1. Go to your profile and tap Followers, then Following at the top. Or use Search.
2. Open the profile you want.
3. Tap Notifications in the top right of their profile.

• Nobody is told when you turn notifications on or off for them, or for their thread
• You have to set this one profile at a time
• It also works for fediverse users you follow, if you've turned on fediverse sharing

Muting keeps you in the chat but stops its notifications:

1. Tap Messages at the bottom.
2. Tap and hold the conversation.
3. Tap Mute.
4. Choose how long to mute it.

Our suggestions, not Meta's:

• Keep replies, mentions and messages on, set to From everyone, so customer questions don't sit unanswered
• Turn likes off if they drown out the notifications that need an answer
• Turn on post notifications for a handful of key accounts, such as partners or local news, so you can reply early
• Use Pause all for evenings or holidays, and check Activity when you're back

• Notifications are paused. Check Pause all under Menu, Notifications
• That type is set to Off, or to From people you follow only
• The conversation is muted. Open it, tap More and unmute it
• Thread alerts stopped. Notifications for a single thread last 24 hours
• You restricted the person. You don't get new notifications when a restricted profile interacts with your content
• Also check your phone's own notification settings for the Threads app
