Should you hide or delete a comment?

Meta treats the two differently. You need Facebook access to the Page to do either; Meta says people with task access can't hide, sort or delete comments on Page posts.

How do you block words and profanity automatically?

With Facebook access you can block up to 1,000 keywords in any language, including phrases and emoji. Meta also hides common variations automatically (misspellings, plurals, abbreviations and swaps such as tr33 for tree), and these don't count towards the limit. To set it up:

  1. Switch into your Page, click its photo in the top right and click Settings and privacy.
  2. Click Settings, then Followers and public content in the left menu.
  3. Click Hide comments containing certain words from your Page. (Meta's business help page puts this under a Public posts heading, so look there if you don't see it.)
  4. Type words or phrases separated by commas, add emoji, or paste a list. Under Options you can also upload a .CSV file.
  5. Click Save.
  6. On the same Followers and public content page, turn on Hide posts and comments with profanity and click Save.

Why can't you hide or filter a comment?

The usual causes, from Meta's help pages:

  • You have task access. Hiding, sorting and deleting need Facebook access; with task access you can still choose blocked keywords in Meta Business Suite, but you can't review variations.
  • You're on an iPhone. Meta says Hidden by this Page is only available from a computer or the Facebook app for Android.
  • Comment ranking is off. You need it on to sort hidden comments; it's on by default and sits under Followers and public content as Show most relevant comments first.
  • It's not your content. Keyword blocking only works on content you created, not other people's posts or posts you're a collaborator on.
  • The comment breaks the rules. After hiding it, you can also report it: click Options, then Report comment.

Where Zolyp fits with comments

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Moderation needs a person who knows your customers, and Zolyp has no social inbox, so comments stay with you in Facebook or Business Suite. Zolyp takes the posting off your hands, which leaves more of your time for the replies.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

Does the person know I hid their comment?

Meta says a hidden comment stays visible to the person who wrote it and their friends, and is hidden for everyone else. Meta notes this can help prevent more unwanted comments.

How many words can I block on a Facebook Page?

Up to 1,000 keywords, in any language, including phrases and emoji. Facebook also hides common variations of each word automatically, and those don't count towards the limit.

Where do I find comments my filters hid?

Open the post, click Most relevant above the comments and select Hidden by this Page. You'll see comments you hid and ones hidden by the profanity filter or blocked words.

Who can moderate comments on a Facebook Page?

People with Facebook access to the Page. Meta says people with task access can't hide, sort or delete comments on Page posts, though they can choose blocked keywords in Meta Business Suite.
