Why can a brand-new account still get views?
TikTok's newsroom says neither follower count nor whether an account has had previous high-performing videos are direct factors in its recommendation system. Each video is judged on how people respond to it.
TikTok's help centre adds that it aims to diversify people's feeds by introducing them to new creators and content. So your first video can be shown to people who have never heard of you. What happens next depends on them: for most users, interactions such as time spent watching are generally weighted most heavily on the For You feed.
The flip side: early videos may get few views while you find your format. That's normal, and it's why the plan below is built on 30 videos, not 3.
It also means there's no need to delete early videos that did poorly. Each one is judged on its own, so a quiet start doesn't hold back the next video.

Set up the account before your first video
- Choose the account type. TikTok says anyone whose main goal is to promote a product or service should use a Verified Business Account. It comes with the Business Suite and the Commercial Music Library, but not the general music library.
- Pick a username people can find: your business name, or your name plus your trade.
- Write a bio that says who you help and where, in plain words.
- Add your website link. Verified Business Accounts can add one straight away; general accounts need at least 1,000 followers.
- Use a clear profile photo: your logo, or your face if you are the business.

Your first 30 videos: a simple plan
Thirty videos gives you enough to see patterns. Post them at a pace you can keep; TikTok doesn't set a number.
A realistic pace for most owners is two or three videos a week, filmed in one session. At that rate, 30 videos takes two to three months, which is also roughly the time it takes to see which series people come back for.
Why one topic? The people who watch your first videos to the end tell TikTok who might like the next ones. If you post cake decorating on Monday, football on Wednesday and a holiday on Friday, each video starts from scratch. If every video is about cakes, viewers who like one are likely to like the next.
- Choose one topic you can talk about for a year, tied to what you sell.
- Pick three series, such as customer questions, behind the scenes and before and after.
- Write 10 ideas for each series before you film anything.
- Film in batches, several videos per session.
- Open every video on the most interesting moment. TikTok's Creator Academy suggests hooking viewers within the first 5 seconds.
- Add on-screen text or captions; TikTok's Creator Academy says over 30% of people it surveyed watch on mute.
- Reply to every comment in the first few weeks. A good question is your next video.
- After video 30, keep the best series, rework the weakest, and plan the next 30.

What does TikTok itself say helps you grow?
TikTok's help centre gives a short list of best practices for growing an audience:
- For a small business, collaboration can be local: a joint video with the café next door, or a Stitch answering a question another business in your area asked.
- Replies count as engagement too. Answering a comment with a new video gives the commenter a reason to come back and shows newcomers you listen.
- If you can go LIVE, a short weekly session answering questions while you work is a simple way to meet viewers in real time.
- Get to know your audience: engage with viewers through comments, TikTok LIVE and other ways, and review your analytics.
- Post high-quality content on a regular basis.
- Create content that's longer than one minute.
- Use TikTok Studio to edit, upload and manage your content.
- Collaborate with similar creators in your community, including through Duet, Stitch and LIVE.

How do you read early results without fooling yourself?
Small numbers swing a lot, so one video tells you little. TikTok also notes a few quirks: analytics only cover videos posted after you turn the feature on, data can take 1 to 2 days to update, and most figures are shown in UTC rather than your local time.
A worked example (hypothetical): after 30 videos, a mobile mechanic finds the "what this noise means" series held viewers about twice as long as the workshop tour videos. The next 30 videos lean towards noises and warning lights, with one workshop video a week kept for variety.
Followers matter less than they look in the early months. A new follower who watches every video and books a service is worth more than a hundred who followed after one funny clip. Watch where followers come from: the series that brings followers who stay engaged is the one to build on.
- Wait a couple of days before judging a video.
- Compare series against series, not video against video.
- Look at how long people watched before you look at likes.
- Note which videos brought followers and profile visits, not just views.
- Keep a simple log: date, series, hook, watch time, followers gained.

Milestones that change what you can do
A few TikTok features depend on your account type or follower count:
| Milestone | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Verified Business Account | Website link on your profile, Business Suite (analytics and leads manager), Commercial Music Library |
| 1,000 followers (general accounts) | You can add a website link to your profile |
| More than 1,000 followers | The Searches by followers filter in Creator Search Insights, showing what your own audience searches for |
| Age and follower requirements met | Going LIVE; see our TikTok LIVE guide for the current rules |

Why do new TikTok accounts stall?
If growth stalls for a month, change one thing at a time: the hooks first, then the topic of a weak series, then how often you post. Changing everything at once makes it impossible to tell what helped.
- Changing topic every week, so neither viewers nor the system learns what you're about.
- Slow openings: a greeting or logo before the point.
- Polishing every video for days instead of posting regularly. TikTok's Creator Academy says authenticity matters more than aesthetics.
- Stopping after a quiet week. Results often come unevenly, so judge the series, not the week.
- Repeatedly posting content unsuitable for the For You feed, which TikTok says makes your account harder to find in For You and search. Check your profile for an Ineligible for recommendation notice.
- Never replying to comments, which wastes your best source of ideas and the people already interested.

Common questions
Can you grow on TikTok with zero followers?
Yes. TikTok says follower count isn't a direct factor in its recommendations, so a new account's video can be shown to people who don't follow you yet.
How long does it take to grow on TikTok?
There's no set timeline. Plan around your first 30 videos rather than days, then keep what works. Regular posting and better hooks usually matter more than time.
Should I buy followers to get started?
No. Bought followers don't watch your videos or buy from you, and they make your analytics harder to read. Grow with videos that the right people want to watch.
How many followers do you need for a link in your TikTok bio?
General accounts need at least 1,000 followers. Verified Business Accounts can add a website link without reaching that number.
Why are my TikTok videos getting no views?
Check for an Ineligible for recommendation notice on your profile first. If there isn't one, look at your openings, your topic consistency and how regularly you post.
Do longer videos help you grow on TikTok?
TikTok's own growth advice includes creating content longer than one minute. Length only helps if people keep watching, so open strongly and cut anything that doesn't earn its place.
