How do you blur faces or objects?

Blur hides a customer's face, a number plate or an address that slipped into shot:

  1. In the editor, select Blur, then Face blur or Custom blur.

  3. For Custom blur, click and drag the box to position and size it.
  4. Drag the ends of the timeline to set when the blur starts and stops.
  5. Click Save.
  • Choose a Rectangle or Oval shape, and resize by dragging a corner.
  • Select Track object to have the blur follow a moving subject, or Fix blur position to keep it still.
  • Drag new boxes to blur more areas.

Why won't my YouTube edits save?

The editor has limits:

  • The video has more than 100,000 views and hasn't been edited before. You may not be able to save changes other than face blur. This doesn't apply to channels in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • The video is six hours or longer. Trimming is only available for shorter videos.
  • You saved and want to go back. Since June 2025, changes saved in the editor can't be undone with Revert to original, so keep your original file.
