Who can boost a LinkedIn post, and which posts qualify?

LinkedIn's rules for boosting from a Page:

  • You need super admin or content admin access to the Page. A Sponsored Content poster can't boost from the Page but can sponsor Page posts in Campaign Manager.
  • Boosting is desktop only for now.
  • You can boost text posts, single images, events, videos, documents, and articles or newsletter articles. Articles must be written by the Page.
  • You can't boost posts that include polls or job ads, and you can't boost the same post twice.
  • LinkedIn's marketing site says members can also boost posts from a personal profile. The help centre's steps only cover Page posts.

How do you boost a LinkedIn Page post?

LinkedIn's desktop steps:

  1. Go to your Page's super or content admin view.
  2. Click Page posts and find the post you want to boost.
  3. Click Boost in the upper-right corner of the post.
  4. Choose a goal.
  5. Set up the audience: keep the suggested audience, use a saved one or a LinkedIn template, or build a new one.
  6. Set the start and end dates and the total budget.
  7. For a lead generation goal, choose a lead form template, fill in the required fields and add your privacy policy URL.
  8. If you can use several ad accounts, pick the one to bill. If you have none, LinkedIn creates one.
  9. Click Boost.
  • Video posts need a headline before they can be boosted.
  • The More leads goal isn't available for document posts.

What audience options do you get when boosting?

Boosting offers a lighter set of targeting than Campaign Manager:

  • Profile language and location are required.
  • The audience must be at least 300 people to launch. For Sponsored Content, LinkedIn recommends at least 300,000.
  • Member Groups can't be targeted in the European Economic Area or Switzerland since 15 May 2024.
  • For Matched Audiences and other advanced targeting, build the campaign in Campaign Manager instead.
OptionWhat it does
Suggested audienceThe default; LinkedIn proposes an audience based on your post's text
Saved audienceReuses a targeting set you saved earlier
New audienceBuilt from attributes such as location, language, seniority, job function and industry
Audience templatesPreset groups from LinkedIn, such as Corporate HR Professionals

How much does it cost to boost a LinkedIn post?

You choose the budget. A boosted post runs on a lifetime budget with a start and end date, and LinkedIn's maximum delivery bidding sets the bids for you. Daily spend varies, but the total never goes over the lifetime budget.

  • Boosted posts are charged by impressions, the number of times the ad is shown.
  • You're billed through the ad account in Campaign Manager, not the Page.
  • The boosting help page doesn't print a minimum. LinkedIn's advertising site says the minimum daily budget is $10 and the minimum lifetime budget for a new campaign is $100. Campaign Manager tells you if your budget is too low.
