The best alternatives to Canva's Content Planner in 2026

Canva's Content Planner comes with Canva Pro ($144 a year for one person) and schedules each design to one platform at a time. To keep designing in Canva but schedule elsewhere, Buffer, Publer and Metricool all connect to Canva, and Buffer's and Publer's free plans include that. For team approvals, Planable. To stop designing every post yourself, use a tool that makes them.

Why do people look for a Canva scheduler alternative?

Canva's Content Planner is handy if you already design in Canva: you schedule from the editor or a calendar view. People usually look elsewhere because of:

  • Scheduling needs a paid plan: it isn't available on Canva Free. Pro is $144 a year for one person and Business $250 a year per person.
  • Each design can be scheduled to only one social platform at a time, so the same post on four networks means four schedules.
  • Canva's help centre lists Facebook Pages, Instagram business accounts, X (listed as Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr, and says to check the Share menu for the current list.
  • Scheduling to Instagram has to be done from a desktop browser.
  • Approvals and team tools come with Business, not Pro.

Buffer: free, with Canva built in

Buffer lists a Canva integration on every plan, including Free. The free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, and channels include TikTok business profiles, YouTube Shorts, Threads and Google Business Profiles as well as the main networks. Essentials is $5 per channel a month billed yearly ($6 monthly); Team ($10 per channel) adds unlimited team members and approvals.

Best for: anyone who designs in Canva and wants a free or low-cost scheduler for a few channels.

Publer: Canva inside the composer

Publer lets you use Canva within Publer and schedule the finished design in a few clicks, on every plan including Free, alongside a built-in photo editor and an Instagram and TikTok feed preview. Professional is $5 an account a month ($4 billed yearly), with every tenth account free. The free plan covers 3 accounts (not X) with 10 scheduled posts each.

Best for: owners with several accounts who want design and scheduling side by side at a low price.

Metricool: Canva plus analytics

Metricool's Canva and Google Drive integration starts on Starter, from $20 a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) for up to 5 brands, with unlimited publishing under a fair use policy and analytics with unlimited history. The free plan (one brand, 20 posts a month, not LinkedIn or X) doesn't list the Canva integration.

Best for: people who want to see which designs performed, not just schedule them.

Planable: Canva designs with approvals

Planable connects to Canva on every plan and is built for review: colleagues and clients comment, suggest edits and approve before anything goes out. Basic is $39 a workspace a month ($33 billed yearly) with unlimited users, 4 pages and 60 posts a month; required approvals start on Pro ($59, or $49 billed yearly).

Best for: teams where a designer makes posts in Canva and someone else signs them off.

SocialPilot: Canva for agencies

SocialPilot lists a Canva integration on all plans. Essentials is $25 a month billed yearly ($30 monthly) for 7 accounts and one user; Standard ($42 billed yearly) adds the inbox, analytics and approvals for 15 accounts and 3 users. No free plan, but a 14-day trial with no card.

Zolyp: when making the posts is the problem

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. If you use Canva because you have to design every post yourself, the scheduler isn't really the bottleneck. Most tools here, like the one you're leaving, move a finished post onto a calendar. If the hard part of your week is deciding what to post and then writing and designing it, a different kind of tool fits better.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), fits each post to its platform, and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You approve the week in minutes. Lite is $9 a month per brand for scheduling your own posts; the plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

How do you choose?

Keep Canva for design if you like it, and pick the scheduler by need:

  • Free and simple: Buffer.
  • Many accounts cheaply: Publer.
  • Analytics on what you post: Metricool.
  • Sign-off before publishing: Planable.
  • Several clients: SocialPilot.
  • No time to design at all: a tool that creates the visuals and captions for you.

What should you check before you switch?

Keep your designs safe while you move:

  • Check that the new scheduler's Canva integration is on the plan you'll pay for.
  • Compare the networks you post to with each tool's list.
  • Before downgrading Canva itself, check whether you rely on Brand Kits, premium templates or the extra AI on Pro.

How do you switch tools without missing a post?

A clean switch takes an afternoon:

  1. Export or write down everything still scheduled in your current tool, with dates and times. Download any reports you want to keep, too.
  2. Connect the same accounts in the new tool and check each one can publish.
  3. Recreate the scheduled posts there, checking the time zone setting first.
  4. Pause or empty the old queue so nothing goes out twice.
  5. Watch the first few posts go live before you cancel the old plan. On a yearly plan, check when it renews.

Common questions

Is Canva's Content Planner free?

No. Scheduling is available on Canva Pro and Business, Canva Education, and to Canva for Nonprofits administrators and brand designers. Canva Free can't schedule posts.

Which platforms can Canva schedule to?

Canva's help centre lists Facebook Pages, Instagram business accounts, X (listed as Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr, and says more are on the way.

Can I use Canva with another scheduler?

Yes. Buffer and Publer (every plan, including Free), Metricool (from Starter), Planable and SocialPilot all list a Canva integration on their pricing pages.

How many accounts can I connect to Canva's Content Planner?

On Pro, Business and Enterprise, each user can connect up to 80 social media accounts per team.

Do I still need Canva Pro if I use another scheduler?

Not for scheduling. Canva Free still covers designing; Pro adds premium templates, 5 Brand Kits and more AI. Check whether you use those before you downgrade.
